Kente weavers appeal to gov't for help
The chairman of Bonwire Kente Weavers and Retailers Association, Stephen Amofa, has appealed to the government to set up a fund to help boost the kente industry which has long been in existence.
According to him, kente, which is the nation’s pride and a national cloth is one indigenous handicrafts that has won worldwide recognition.
In an interview with Kessben Television, Mr Amofa attributed the major problem the industry is facing to the depreciation of the cedi as the thread the weavers use is imported from China.
He lamented that there are about 50 types of kente patterns in the country currently which are not being purchased because of the high cost.
Some weavers and retailers also complained about the poor state of their roads, saying that this also affects their business.
Mr. Amofa appealed to the government to come to their aid.
