Ashanti region records first cholera cases
The Ashanti region has recorded its first outbreak of cholera at Kokotenten in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region.
One person has been confirmed dead and three others hospitalised.
The latest incident happened less than a month after 15 people died and 855 fell ill in an outbreak in Greater Accra Region.
Francis Osei, the Adansi South District Health Director, said the cholera patient died at the Obuasi Government Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
According to him, the diarrhoea and vomiting of the three other affected people had been brought under control by medical personnel at the St Jude Hospital in Obuasi.
Mr Osei blamed the cholera outbreak on poor sanitation conditions and lack of toilet facilities in the district.
