Taskforce set up on Ashanti voter registration violence

Leading political parties in the Ashanti region, where reports of violence at voter registration centres have been reported, have blamed each other for the violence.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye has announced a taskforce to deal with the violence.
In one incident, Electoral Commission equipment was destroyed by an unknown group of people, while on Friday a person was stabbed in the stomach at Abrotia.
Regional Police Commander Boakye said anyone assaulted by supporters of either the National Democratic Party (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should report the incident at the nearest police station.
He pledged that the Ashanti Police Service would do their work without favouring any party.
DCOP Kofi Boakye said 120 police officers would be deployed across the region to visit every station to oversee the on-going registration exercise.
The limited voter registration exercise ends on Wednesday, August 13.
