Kumasi traders to be registered

President John Mahama has tasked the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to register all traders at the Kumasi Central Market in a move to reassure traders that they will get back their stalls when the market is rebuilt.
The President said this at an event to mark the end of Ramadan at the Central Mosque in Kumasi.
“The KMA must register every single person currently doing business in the market. This registered list will be published in the national newspapers and the person who will be so registered will be given the priority and allocation of space when the new market is completed,” he said.
Plans to rebuild the Kumasi Central Market have been on the cards for some time due to the frequent outbreak of fire at the market.
Several attempts to rebuild the market over the years have been resisted by the traders who fear they will be priced out and lose their pitches when the new market is completed.
