Workers present petition to Ashanti regional minister
Hundreds of workers converged at the Kumasi Cultural Centre early this morning to express their anger at the difficult economic conditions.
They were part of a nationwide mass strike led by Organised Labour which included workers from various sectors.
The demonstrators said they were discouraged at government’s apparent inability to tackle challenges facing the economy.
There was heavy police presence and the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kofi Boakye said that although the protestors were at a point uncontrollable, police had worked hard to perform their role.
The representative of the union presented a petition to the Ashanti Regional Minister Mr Samuel Sarpong. The union representative said that citizens are unable to keep to their budget as prices of basic items keep increasing daily making it difficult for them to make savings on their income.
Deputy Minister, Hon. Joseph Yamin thanked the organisers and promised to send the petition to the President John Mahama for an immediate response.
