Give us our grants – School heads demand
Heads of secondary schools have asked government to release the grants earmarked for Senior High Schools.
Speaking on Angel radio this morning, the spokesperson for the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHAS) and headmaster of Tepa Senior High School, Mr Anerfi Mensah said that various secondary schools across the country have not received their government subvensions, some for up to five years. He added that bills and debts have continued to pile up with no funds available to settle these.
Mr Mensah further explained that because of the delayed in the government’s subsidies, the various Senior High Schools are now solely dependent on school fees and this has led to poor feeding of students.
“We even feed some students porridge without bread and milk all because the money being used to purchase food items is rather used to pay utilities,” he added.
However, Mr Mensah stated that, they are still hopeful that the funds will be released to them and are pleading with the government to make it a priority so they can run and maintain their various schools and curtail the increased trailing of students.
