Real chasing 10th Champions League trophy
Cristiano Ronaldo is hoping to crown the season, which has brought a record UEFA Champions League goals tally and the FIFA Ballon d’Or, with a Champion’s League trophy for Real Madrid.
“It is a moment that all Madridistas are dreaming about – the ‘décima’,” said Cristiano Ronaldo, with anticipation reaching fever pitch in the Spanish capital ahead of the UEFA Champions League final. “We are all very excited, so we have to win.”
The Portuguese forward has a scored a record 16 goals in the competition this season and collected the FIFA Ballon d’Or. The icing on the cake would be a win in Lisbon.
“It will be a special game. I will be playing in my home country,” said the 29-year-old. “It is my first final with Real Madrid, so that will be special too and it will be against a great team, Atlético. They have had an amazing year. But we are going to try and win.”
With Real chasing an elusive tenth title, Ronaldo knows history can be written at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica. “It is a trophy we have been looking to win for many years. Real Madrid have wanted it for a long time. Since the first day we came here, we’ve felt that positive pressure to win the Champions League. We feel like we are now one small step away from winning.”
