We won't charge customers for use of social media – Tigo

One of Ghana’s telecommunication giants, Tigo has stressed that it has no plans of charging its valued customers for the use of social media.
The announcement follows an article in the Daily Express, and on some news websites, on the intentions of Telecom operators (including Tigo) to charge customers for the use of social media.
Tigo said in a statement, issued Tuesday and signed by Kwamena Buckman, PRO for Tigo, that “We wish to clarify the following; Tigo Ghana has no intention to charge customers for use of social media platforms.”
According to the telecommunications network, “Like we have currently, customers will only have to pay for the internet service that enables them to access the internet and all other social platforms there.”
Tigo said users of the Blackberry Q and Z series no longer have to pay for specific BB services because the BBM service has been made free by RIM (Manufacturers of Blackberry).
“All they need to do is to subscribe to any of our data packages to enjoy their Blackberry service. Users of old Blackberry models however, will still have to subscribe to specific Blackberry packages because charges for BB services on older devices,” the statement added.
Tigo customers, the company noted, with mobile devices running on Android, Apple IOS, Microsoft Windows or Blackberry are not charged special fees “for APP downloads. Only relevant internet charges apply.”
“We wish to assure our customers that we are committed to providing the best quality of service at the most affordable rate in the Ghana,” Tigo assured.
