Former Information Minister in the Kufuor Administration, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, says he abhors the “harassment” of the current Government by his own party.
“…Give the Government some space”, he admonished the biggest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) when he spoke in an interview with XYZ Breakfast Show host Moro Awudu on Monday.
According to him, “[whether] we like it or not, the election [dispute] has been settled; the NDC – our Cousins we call them – are in government. Let’s give them space. If we were in government, we would request space and time to implement our programmes, so why won’t we give them space”.
Mr. Asamoah Boateng, who is speculated to be one of 15 persons hoping to run for President in 2016 on the ticket of the NPP said: “It’s fair because at the end of the day, we are trying to serve the Ghanaian public and if you are just chasing and harassing the government and all that, it’s not good for the nation”.
“I do not think if the NDC fails, it’s to our advantage, no”, he observed.
He added that: “If the NDC fails, it’s to the disadvantage of all Ghanaians and if the NPP comes after their failure, we might struggle to pick it up and help Ghanaians, so let them get to a certain point and then everybody will know their capacity cannot go beyond that point, then they will look for the NPP and we’ll build it better than the NDC, that is my view of politics”.
