Kwesi Appiah wins back love, dedicates win to Ghanaians

Following a loss of favour in the sight of a lot of his countrymen, it was vital that Kwesi Appiah won against Sudan in World Cup qualifying on Sunday.

After he achieved a resounding win, the team coach has called the victory “an important win for Ghanaians”.

The 4-0 result was a bit flattering, but it still boosted the team’s chances of getting to the 2014 World Cup especially after group leaders Zambia dropped points in Maseru in a 1-1 draw.

“It was really important that we try to get a win today, it was an important game not for me but for Ghanaians,” Appiah noted.

Group D now sees Ghana second after the Kumasi rout – with two goals in each half scored by Asamoah Gyan, Mubarak Wakaso, Abdul Majeed Waris and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu – and the coach has underlined the team’s vision again.

“Our main aim is to try and qualify the nation to the World Cup and to do that we needed to win tonight’s game order to progress to the next stage.”

Before getting to the next stage, they will need equally good results against Sudan and Lesotho (both away, in June) and then at home with Zambia.
