Ghana is not retrogressing – Mahama insists

President John Mahama has dismissed suggestions from his political opponents that the country is retrogressing.

According to him, the country’s ability to achieve the various targets set in the Millennium Development Goals clearly vindicates his position.

“If you look at the Millennium Development Goals that we set ourselves, Ghana is one of the country’s that is achieving almost all of them. We have increased enrollment of school children to above 90 percent, as many girls are going to school as boys are going to school. We have reduced extreme hunger from 37 percent to below 5 percent.”

He added: “Apart from South Africa in sub-Saharan Africa, Ghana is the country with the highest electricity connectivity; 72 percent of our people are connected to electricity.”

He made the announcement after inaugurating a water project in Agave Afedume in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region over the weekend.
