The Police who later arrived in the area have said they made some arrests.
Speaking to Citi News, Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tettey said they were told the young men were contracted by one Nii who was a member of one of the factions in the chieftaincy dispute.
“We had the information that they were contracted by one Nii who lives in Teshie and is a member of one of the factions in the chieftaincy dispute,” he stated.
“In the process of the confrontation with the Teshie residents, one of the men from Jamestown died and we were able to arrest five of them. Four are currently in police custody and one is in critical condition,” he noted.
DSP Freeman Tettey however debunked claims that a school near the Teshie Police Station has been torched by the suspected men from James Town.
“When we got to the school, we realized that it wasn’t true but parents have been able to take their children home. The situation is now calm and everyone is going about their normal business,” he stated.
DSP Tetteh further mentioned that the police were in the meantime on the hunt for the one who sent the men to cause confusion.
“The people are in custody and we are looking for the person who contracted them to come and cause confusion,” he added.
