Confusion hits adoption of conjoined twins over adoption money

The adoption of the conjoined twins in the Central Region has been hit by confusion over money. The families of the parents who were at the hospital to take pictures and bid farewell to the twins accused each other of collecting money for the adoption. This follows the rejection of the twins by the families and the signing of a formal agreement to leave the twins in the custody of government. Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, Joy News’ Central Regional correspondent, reported that the families of the father and mother of the conjoined twins, officials of the social welfare department and hospital authorities took part in a photo-taking exercise to finally say goodbye to the conjoined twins on Friday. But shortly after this, the families started hauling verbal attacks against each other on suspicions that one party had taken money from the Social Welfare Department. Kwame Dadzi-Dennis, one of the directors of the Social Welfare Department in the Central region said during a discussion with the families, they did not make any financial demands and expressed surprise at the developments. Mr Dadzie-Dennis said the babies will be in the custody of the Department until they are sent to the Osu Children’s Home while they wait for the arrival of the Swedish couple who have expressed interest in adopting the babies. The babies share the same heart but have two stomachs, two hands and two legs.
