Kumasi shooting: Police arrest one suspect
The Ashanti regional police command has arrested one person in connection with the shooting incident which occurred in the early hours of Monday.
35 year-old Joe Ayisi and an employee of WESTEC, is reported to have been shot in the chest and hacked with machetes after he attempted to foil a robbery attack.
According to a cook at the hotel, several expatriates had visited the area at the weekend, and thus believed the robbers had besieged the hotel to rob them.
Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Tanko in an interview with Citi News’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Betty Ohemaa Agyemang said the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Monday.
Several rounds of live cartridges were found on him after a thorough search.
“We have reason to believe that because he was pursued for a long time before he was arrested, he had managed to throw the weapon somewhere.
We are searching the area to see if we can get the weapon to add to the evidence we are gathering; it happened between 1 to 2 am.”
