Asantehene's call shows his support for all parties-lecturer

A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Aminu Dramani has said the call made by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu on President John Mahama, Former President Rawlings and Nana Akufo-Addo signified his [Asantehene] encouragement for all parties.

According to the lecturer, Otumfuo held a responsible position in society and therefore saw his call as a way to protect his kingdom:

“Otumfuo holds a responsible position and if the worst should happen out of the court decision, his kingdom will not be exempted therefore as a responsible leader, he wants to encourage the parties so that at the end of it, whatever decision the court makes will be accepted in good faith”.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, Mr. Dramani said the call was important because, “if the leaders make it clear even before the decision is made that they will accept the verdict and encourage their followers to do so, then they are preparing the grounds for the peaceful acceptance of the decision of the court.”

The Asantehene had earlier indicated that he will support any decision made by the justices of the Supreme Court.

According to him, should there be any change of government as a result of the court ruling, the triumphant party will receive his full backing.

Speaking after a courtesy call on the President at the Flagstaff House, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also asked the Executive arm of government to prioritize unity and collaborative effort in the governance of the nation.
