Gov’t will develop Kantamanto into railway terminal – Dzifa Attivor

The Minister for Transport Dzifa Attivor has stated that government is ready to develop the Kantamato railway land into a modern rail station.

“We are now ready to develop the rail sector. The station will come with some facilities e.g. shops, restaurants and restrooms” she said.

This is after many raised objections to the Mayor of Accra’s plan to transform the fire-ravaged Kantamanto market land into a modern market.

Those opposing Mr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije’s plans say the land belongs to the railway authority and had been earmarked for a terminal and government must use the opportunity to build the terminal.

In an interview with Citi News Mrs. Attivor appealed to the traders who were occupying most part of the market not to return to the market.

“We want to take this opportunity to appeal to the traders that they should not go back there because we are going to develop the rail lines” she said.

She added that when it is developed “it will be converted into a big shopping mall as it is done everywhere.”

She pleaded with the market women to make use of the pedestrian shopping mall as well as the Makola market.

Meanwhile the Minister has ordered that all houses and structures that have been erected on lands demarcated for railway development should be demolished.

She indicated that the encroachers have no right to question government’s directive after being warned against their actions.
