Kantamanto market: Traders clash with Police

Traders, whose wares were destroyed by the fire which razed down the Kantamanto market on Sunday have clashed with the personnel from the Ghana Police Service on Monday evening during an attempt by the police to take control of the area.

Gunshots were heard from the area as the police tried to secure the burnt market.

The traders claim they will not allow the Police and government to rebuild the market because of the possibility of exorbitant prices being charged for the new shops.

They said the shops will be too expensive for them to afford.

Citi FM’s reporters in the area have said it took a joint team of the national fire service and the police calm the traders down and put out the small fires they had set.

The the entire Kantamanto market area was razed down by fire on Sunday morning.
