Contributors to Bui project will be recognised duly – Energy Ministry

Head of Communications at the Energy Ministry, Edward Bawa has explained that former President Kufuor was not invited to the ceremony at the Bui Power Plant on Friday because it was not the final commissioning of the project.

According to Mr. Bawa the ceremony was simply a ‘switching on ceremony’.

“This is more like a working tour to see how the project is going. Looking at even how the programme was organized today I wonder if it would have been proper to put somebody of the stature of the former president to be following the crowd.”

He noted that the former President will be invited to the final commissioning of the Project which was slated for end of the year.

Mr. Bawa said on Eyewitness News that the role of the former president could never be ignored or understated.

“By the close of the year when we have the formal commissioning all persons who have played different roles in ensuring that this project comes to fruition will definitely be recognized.”

President Kufour during his administration signed the contract with the Chinese engineering and procurement organization, Sinohydro in April 2007, to construct the dam that would add 400 megawatts of power to the national grid.

The construction of the Dam cost the government of Ghana $60 million out of the total project cost of $622m which was largely funded by the Chinese government.
