Seek redress elsewhere – FWSC advises striking Doctors
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has advised striking Doctors to seek redress from the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiation Committee for concerns to be addressed.
The Commission has stated that it will not be coerced with the incessant strikes declared by the Doctors.
According to the FWSC, the Doctors could have used a more appropriate channel for addressing their concerns rather than laying the problems at the doorstep of the Fair Wages Commission.
In an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the FWSC, Earl Ankrah explained that the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiation Committee “is a committee made up of Fair Wages on one end and organized labour on one end and at that committee, many things are discussed, issues concerning their social security.”
According to him, Doctors are members of the committee “so if they have issues, they don’t have to bring it to Fair Wages because now the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiation Committee is an open forum … so if you sincerely have a valid case, put it out there.”
Mr. Ankrah explained that the architects of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) anticipated “these challenges so they put all the structures down so that they get followed. Going on strike at the snap of the finger is not something we can cope with.”
