Guinea fowl project is yet to begin – SADA

The Savannah Accelerated Authority (SADA) has indicated that actual operations for the GHC 15 million guinea fowl project is yet to begin although land for the project has been acquired by the Authority.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Efutu Constituency, Alex Markin has asked government to give detailed accounts for the GHC 15 million it spent on the guinea fowl project embarked on under the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).

The Project Coordinator of the Upper West Regional branch of SADA, Kennedy Atibo in an interview on Eyewitness News on Tuesday explained that his outfit was yet to begin the guinea fowl project since it was a new addition to the line of projects the Authority was undertaking.

He said: “We currently have been able to acquire the land in a nearby community along the Wa-Tumu road… The land of 10 acres was acquired in that community.”

According to him, they were waiting for the contractor to begin work on the farm to enable the project commence.

Mr. Atibo mentioned that “as far as the guinea fowl project is concerned, that is the only site that we know now.”

He added that when the project begins, the guinea fowl will be “processed and sold to consumers within and outside the region. The farm will be the centre from which beneficiaries across the regions will be brought to undergo the training after which they are going to be equipped and serve as out growers.”
