The people of Ahafo in the Brong Ahafo Region are protesting the appointment of the new Regional Minister.
They claim Eric Opoku who was originally appointed for the region understood their plight and they fear that the new Minister Paul Evans Aidoo is not likely to complete development projects Mr. Opoku started.
Speaking on behalf of the people, the immediate past president of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs and paramount chief of Kukuom Nana Kwaku Atachie, said the people are disappointed about the transfer of the minister from the region for fear that some earmarked projects for the area might not be implemented.
He lamented that he and the former Deputy Regional Minister discussed that the Minister’s transfer “may lead to the abandonment of some projects and programs which will be very beneficial to the people in the area”.
Osahene Atachie noted that the development of the area is “so dear to the heart of Hon Eric Opoku who is the MP for Asunafo South and for that matter would have made sure that his dreams and aspirations for the area became a reality
He stated that the Minister’s transfer was a big blow to the people who wish he should have been maintained in the region to continue his good works which they are afraid the new minister may not complete
He prayed that the President will “rescind his decision and bring the minister back to the region to continue the good works and intentions for the people.”
President John Dramani Mahama, in line with his vision to transform the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) into incubators and realisers of local level development announced the first reshuffle of his regional ministers last Monday.
