FlagStaff House Now Jubilee Flagstaff House

Minister of Information and Media relations has divulged that the NDC led government has changed the name of presidential palace from Flagstaff House to the Jubilee Flagstaff House.
One can recall that the edifice was christened Jubilee House by the erstwhile Kufuor administration to mark Ghana’s 50th anniversary of Independence; however in 2009, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by the late President John Evans Atta Mills changed it to the Flagstaff House, claiming that the previous government had not used a Legislative Instrument to effect the change as required by law.
Speaking to Kwami Sefa-Kayi, in an interview, Mahama Ayariga even though could not state exactly when the name was changed, said the President started using it when he changed the seat of government from the Osu Castle to the Flagstaff House.
According to him, the new name has married the two separate names; Jubilee House from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Flagstaff House from the NDC; hence it will not create any controversy.
“The two names have been put together and I think it is time we make progress and we focus on what is happening in Jubilee Flagstaff House and not the name” he said.
