A Ghana of no water, lights does not deserve our pride – Prof Badu Akorsah

Leading member of the Convention People’s Party, Professor Agyemang Badu Akorsah has pointed to Citi News that the failure of the state to deal with its challenges makes it difficult for any patriotic citizen, like himself, to have any pride in her.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr Akorsah noted, “we live in a country that is very frustrating, a country without light, water and a country without toilets for its people and sadly we seem to bask in some glory that we are a middle income country.”

Professor Badu Akosah noted that the state of Ghana, 56 years after independence, was a sad reflection on the total leadership of the country since 1956.

“The earlier we are able to confront our deficiencies the better it is; I think that we have made our politics too partisan to the detriment of the country’s development.”

According to the CPP stalwart, until the laws of the country are enforced without fear or favour, the sense of patriotism being demanded by the President will not be realized.

“In any society where people think they can do things and get away with it, people will definitely do the worst. People know they can get away with anything, even murder, and will do the worst and get away with it.

“We have got to make sure we enforce the law; we cannot expect citizens to be disciplined when every day they see others flout the law without exceptions. There must be a system that ensures that those who fall foul of the law are checked,” he opined.

The former Director General of the Ghana Health Service however commended president Mahama for reminding Ghanaians to be patriotic saying “Those who put themselves out for leadership should love this country unconditionally irrespective of partisanship.”

“If we continue like this and nothing changes then I bet that we will be more frustrated than we have been for a long time.”

Prof Akorsah made the remark when commenting on the significance of Ghana’s 56th independence celebration.
