Kennedy Osei Nyarko Urges Christians To Oppose NDC’s Plan To Turn Cathedral Into Cultural Center

Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has voiced strong opposition to reports suggesting that the Government may convert the under-construction National Cathedral project into a National Cultural Convention Centre.

In a passionate Facebook post, the MP — a known Christian advocate — called on fellow believers not to remain silent, warning that such a move would betray the original spiritual and national vision behind the cathedral project.

“As a Christian, you should be worried that this Government wants to convert the proposed National Cathedral into a National Cultural Convention Centre. Where lies your faith and love to the gospel? Don’t just sit unconcerned. Speak up now with courage,” he wrote.

The MP’s remarks add to the growing national debate surrounding the controversial National Cathedral, which has faced mounting scrutiny over funding, delays, and shifting government narratives about its purpose.

While the government has not officially confirmed a change in the project’s status, speculation about repurposing the site has intensified in recent weeks amid economic challenges and calls for prioritizing infrastructure and social services.

Nyarko’s appeal frames the issue as a test of Christian conviction, urging the faithful to rise in defense of what was envisioned as a national place of worship and Christian unity.
