Clergymen to petition Appointment’s Committee over Oye Lithur's nomination

The Clergy Members Association of Ghana would on Wednesday petition the Appointment’s Committee to disapprove the nomination of Nana Oye Lithur as Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The group indicated that Nana Oye Lithur is a strong advocate for gay rights and that might impact the decisions she makes as a Minister of State.

Speaking to Citi News, Bishop Kofi Bani spokesperson for the group, stated that Nana Oye Lithur’s support for such rights makes it unwise for the committee to appoint her to such a sensitive position.

“Are you aware that the homosexual organization in Ghana went before the Constitutional Review Committee to go and lobby for them for the legalization of homosexuality in Ghana?” he questioned.

He noted “all these things have been hidden from Ghanaians.”

He emphasized that many might attribute it to Nana Oye Lithur which is not the case but the growing strength of the organization in Ghana.
According to him, “they (gays) are looking for every opportunity to pounce on and we have seen that putting Nana Oye Lithur there will embolden them.”

He indicated that Nana Oye Lithur as Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection would give them an opportunity to keep pushing since they are coming with full force.

He opined that although we don’t see the numbers in Ghana they are still a powerful force.

He lamented “so if Ghanaians will not support us and they would think that it is just because of somebody’s appointment, no that is not it.”

“It is about principles because what do I get when she is appointed or not appointed” he added.
