MTN warehouse fire: Investigations into cause of fire are inconclusive – Fire Service

Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Prince Billy Anaglate has indicated to Citi News that after initial investigations, the cause of the fire at the MTN warehouse at Spintex is still unclear.

“We started our investigations just to see what might have caused this fire. It is difficult, in looking at the type of smoke that is emanating from the place, we have not been able to identify anything yet. We are hoping that after fighting this fire we will be able to investigate it and know the cause of this fire.”

According to Mr Anaglate his unit was going to work assiduously to ensure that the true cause of the fire was discovered.

He pointed out that a combination of reasons were however responsible for the inability of his personnel to put out the fire.

“If we are finding it difficult it, it is because of the type of components that are on fire, you look at the type of smoke that is coming out, you look at the wind direction and the level of the wind. All these things contribute and interfere in our technical and operational operations.”

In his opinion his team were working with utmost care and tact to ensure that the situation was amply contained and prevent a further spread of the fire.

Fire gutted sections of the Spintex warehouse of telecommunications giant, MTN on Tuesday afternoon destroying sections of the facility.

According to Citi News reporter, Nana Boakye Yiadom, workers in the warehouse revealed that an explosion was heard moments before the fire spread quickly through the warehouse located opposite the Oak Plaza Hotel.

“A thick cloud of smoke is emanating from the area where the facility is located,” he said.

According to him, the fire is suspected to have been sparked by the activities of some persons attempting to dispose off rubbish.

One of the workers who attempted to put out the fire, collapsed and has since been rushed to the hospital, he reported.

Speaking to some of the security personnel at the warehouse, Nana Boakye reported the warehouse stores several types of cables, MTN polls among others.
