Ghana will be shocked by the evidence of vote rigging – NPP

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has indicated that evidence available to it will shock Ghanaians and establish that the declaration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner of the December 7 contest was wrong.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra on Sunday, Director of Communication for the NPP, Nana Akomea noted that with evidence for 20,000 polling stations being successfully scrutinised, the party was currently armed with enough evidence to proceed to court to prove that the December 7th election was rigged.

The NPP has challenged the results of the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections that saw President Mahama emerge as winner.

“The results were declared on Sunday 9th of December and we have up to the end of December to present our petition. We know that there is expectation for us to present the petition immediately but we believe that the evidence that we are gathering is so overwhelming that we want to present the evidence in the fullest of details. As you keep looking at the calculations, you discover more and more irregularities and more and more abnormalities.”

Nana Akomea noted that: “We have to present evidence that will leave the court in no doubt whatsoever that they have to uphold our case. We want the evidence to be water tight. So we have teams who are doing the collation, double checking and teams that are triple checking. These are basically auditing teams of young people who are doing the calculations and the second stage auditing and third stage auditing to make sure that the case is tight.”

He indicated that with the enormous amount of data to be processed, it was natural that the process will take as long as it has.

“Now to the timeline, what the rule states is that the defendant presumably the EC will have 10 days to respond and after they have responded the court is enjoined to start hearing after 5 days. So assuming we file on the 30th the defendant presumably the EC will have 10 days so if they file in 10 days which will take us to the 10th of January and then after they have filed the supreme court is enjoined to start hearing In 5 days which will take us to the 15 of January so basically 15th to the 16th of January we expect that the case will start.”

The NPP is expected to hold a demonstration in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi to protest the results of the December 7 polls on Tuesday.
