Ballot box snatchers are enemies of state; they will be dealt with ruthlessly – IGP

The Inspector General of Police says ballot box snatchers and their ilk will be considered enemies of the state and they will be dealt ruthlessly.
Paul Tawiah Quaye gave the warning at a press briefing in Accra in less than 24 hours to the crucial election on Friday.
He explained the police will not countenance any act by election criminals that will subvert the supreme interest of the people.
He stopped short of saying whether such culprits will be shot on sight, but said, unequivocally that those culprits are no less enemies of the state and will be crashed.
The police have been accused especially by political parties of selective application of the law and in some cases reneging on its responsibilities.
These have culminated in mistrust and suspicions.
Paul Tawiah Quaye cautioned personnel to be neutral in the dispatch of their duties to build mutual trust and respect among the electorates.
He said personnel found to have breached their code of conduct will also be dealt with ruthlessly under the law.
Several thousands of police personnel have been dispatched to the various constituencies to police over 20,000 polling stations across the country.
