Lawyer for the owner of construction company, Build Mart Ghana Limited, Nana Asante Bedietuo has accused the Police Service of allowing themselves to be manipulated as “political tools.”
His accusations follow a search conducted by the some Police personnel on the premises of Build Mart Ghana Limited located on the Spintex Road.
The Police are reported to have been searching for “false information” on the President, John Mahama which was allegedly in the custody of the the owner, Michael Ofori Attah.
According Nana Asante Bedietuo however, he suspects the Police were up to mischief after producing two different search warrants before ransacking the building.
He told Citi News about 10 to 12 Police personnel conducted the search.
“The ones in uniform were holding guns and the others were plain clothed detectives, I imagine. The only action we can take as responsible citizens is to draw the public’s attention to this rather unethical use of Police power.”
In his opinion, the Polices’ action was wrong because the Police “under the cover of the criminal code purport to use Police power to do something that you cannot do otherwise. You cannot get up and say you are going to search somebody’s house for material which contains false information about the President.”
Citi News’ efforts to reach the Director of Operations at the Police CID Headquarters, ACP Frank Kwofie have so far proved futile.
