Melcom Disaster: Management Regret Tragic Incident

The Chairman, Directors, Management and Staff of Melcom Group of Companies on Thursday expressed regret for the collapse of Achimota Melcom Shopping Mall at approximately 09.45 am on Wednesday November 7th 2012.
“Our priority concern has been to continuously work with the Government Agencies and Task Forces to rescue as many lives as possible.
“We pray and hope to save many lives and care for all survivors”, the management stated in a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on the incident and noted that evacuated employees, customers, and bystanders who were directly affected by the tragedy have been taken to various hospitals.

According to the statement, Melcom Management is doing whatever it can to assist the unfortunate staff and will ensure that the necessary care is given to them.
The Chairman and Managing Director have visited all the various hospitals to meet, console and encourage the employees and the public who were affected.
According to the statement, selected Melcom senior staffs have been directed to be available at the various hospitals to provide the necessary assistance.
The management also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, Minister of Trade and Industry Ms Hannah Tetteh, and other political and traditional leaders who have shown concern and support during “this difficult situation.”
“Our show our appreciation to the media for their support and regular update of events, we also thank all the organizations who assisted, including the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police, AMA, NADMO, National Ambulance Service, Ghana Red Cross, and Zoomlion Limited.
“We also salute other Private Construction companies who have come forth with heavy equipment and specialized man power skills to conduct this search and rescue operation.
“Finally we thank the general public also for their support and prayers during this difficult time”.
The search and rescue efforts are continuing late into the night.
