New Vision Party to sue EC for compensation
The lawyer for the presidential candidate of the New Vision Party (NVP) Prophet Daniel Nkansah said they will amend their writ to demand compensation from the Electoral Commission (EC) for its refusal to accept his nomination forms.
An Accra High Court on Monday declined to grant an injunction the party was seeking to prevent the Electoral Commission from printing the presidential ballot papers for the December 7 elections.
According to the court, personal interest should not override public interest, stressing that the cost the EC would suffer cannot be compared to that of the individual.
Lawyer J K Yeboah said the case is not over as the next step will be to demand some compensation.
“We will amend our writ of summons to include other reliefs such as damages against unlawful or wrongful refusal to accept the presidential nominee forms of the NVP and at the end of the day if we win the case what it means is that, there will be damages awarded in the form of monetary compensations,” he stated.
