Two prison officers nabbed
Two Prison Officers and their civilian accomplices have been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command for their involvement in several armed robbery cases in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region.
Lance Corporal Prince Quaye and Second Class Officer Adu Mensah, both officers at Amanfrom prisons were arrested on Wednesday.
Their two civilian accomplices, Thomas Wiafe and Farouk Abubakar were also apprehended.
The latest arrest brings to 10 the number of serving security officers arrested for robbery at various mining sites in the Ashanti Region in the last three months.
Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Corporal Godwin Ahianyo said the men will soon be arraigned before court.
“People in security service uniforms come around the area to rob them [civilians] of their monies so the commander tasked the district commander of Manso Nkwanta to be on the lookout for such persons,” he said.
Corporal Ahianyo explained that “three days ago, the police got wind that some men had gone there to engage themselves in the same activity. We arrested the four guys, two of which are personnel from the prisons, one in military uniform who was later found not to be in the military.”
He warned that “until those in the uniform stop engaging in those activities, we will not stop chasing them and bringing them to book.”
