Prez Nominates Two Judges For Supreme Court

PRESIDENT JOHN Dramani Mahama has nominated Justices A. A. Benneh and J. B. Akamba for parliamentary approval and appointment to the Supreme Court.
The two were nominated by the President on the advice of the Judicial Council and in consultation with the Council of State in accordance with Article 144 (2) of the constitution.
A communication to that effect was presented to parliament yesterday for consideration.
Accordingly, First Deputy Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho has referred the nominees to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for consideration and report.
If the two nominees are approved, the total number of the judges in the highest court of the land will be increased from 12 to 14.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, yesterday laid the estimates of the revenues and expenditure of the Government of Ghana for the 2013 financial year as well as the expenditure in advance of Appropriation, January to March 2013.
The minister also laid a mixed Credit Facility Agreement between the Government and Export-Import Bank of China for an amount of $168.4 million as additional funding to complete the Bui Hydro Electric Power Project.
First Deputy Speaker Adjaho has accordingly referred the papers to the Finance Committee of Parliament for consideration and report.
