Mahama preaches peace in Somanya

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the traditional leaders of Somanya to demand from companies who explore their lands their fair share of development.
Residents of Manya krobo have for a period been agitating over the refusal of companies such as GHACEM to rehabilitate roads which have been ruined by their activities.
President Mahama said the residents can only get what they deserve from the companies if they remain united. He was speaking at the Anyaklo Ngmayem festival of the people of Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region.
“I have been informed that due to some misunderstanding amongst some factions of the traditional area, compensation for the Kpong head works has still not been paid. Also for the same reason the benefits you are suppose to receive from the mining of limestone by GHACEM has also not been paid,” Mahama said.
“These are benefits that when you receive will enable you to actual the theme for this year’s celebrations; which is managing our human resources, the responsibility of all.
“It is only when you have received compensation payment and revenue from the limestone that you can invest meaningfully in the development of the human resource aspect of your area. You need to come together as one people to be able to demand your rights,” he said.
“The companies involved will not under take their responsibilities to you if you do not have a consensus amongst yourselves.”
