Manchester United fan Rory McIlroy unsure over Louis van Gaal

Van Gaal has spent over £108m in new signings this summer, but they are already five points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City after four games.
Speaking to Sky Sports at the Deutsche Bank Championship, where he finished in a share of 29th place, Manchester United fan McIlroy revealed his doubts over the Dutchman’s suitability for the role.
“I think the new signings will be good in time, but I’m not convinced LVG is the right man to lead us,” he said.
“I don’t know, it’s a hard one. Everyone is dropping points, and it looks like City might run away with the league.
“At least we’re back in Europe, so that’s a good thing.”
Van Gaal’s men have scored just three times this season – one of which was an own goal – with striker Wayne Rooney yet to find the net in the league.
But the 29-year-old scored for England in the 6-0 win over San Marino to match Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time Three Lions record of 49 international goals, and McIlroy is hoping Rooney can start finding the net for United.
“Rooney did well for England at the weekend, so hopefully that will give him confidence when he returns to domestic football,” he added.
“A top-four finish is obviously likely, and hopefully we’ll challenge for the title, but we’ll see.”
